In A Slow Moving Stream, poet Diane Moore follows the languid Bayou Teche from its source at Port Barre to Morgan City, Louisiana where it empties into the mighty Atchafalaya River, making a journey that traces Cajun origins in a lovely and sometimes lonely landscape. During the journey she unveils the characters and events of early Acadian settlements from the time the Cajuns fled their native Pisiguit, Nova Scotia to present-day oil wealthy Acadiana. This volume includes poems about the Great Flood of 1927, a Civil War battle near Franklin, Louisiana, descriptions of swamp life, and explores spiritual ties that have bound the people who built homes and enterprises along “a slow-moving stream” in one of the United States’ most colorful cultures.

Here's what I wrote on today's Blog and Facebook:Diane Moore, A Slow Moving Stream, is her umpteenth volume of poetry and a loving trip along Bayou Teche. Especially I appreciate the way Diane’s poetry is enhanced and beatified by Vickie Sullivan’s photographs. I will revisit often this amazing, deeply pleasing, and charming book.
The back story here is that Diane and I have been friends for longer than either of us can believe, ever since I lived in New Iberia all those years ago writing a romance set in Cajon country. I value Diane highly. Besides her huge outcrop of publications she manages to review her friends books so generously. (Check her reviews of my Hawaiian books.)

A Slow Moving Stream Diane Marquart Moore 9780996873727 Books Reviews
Diane Moore's poetry is insightful, profound and accessible. I have followed her writing for years and enjoy it all, but it is the poetry that I secretly await. I anticipate being amazed by her new poetry and have never been disappointed.. She gathers the nuances of life and arranges them in patterns that might provide a new perspective,or recount incidences that need to be revealed, or she might nudge memory awake so I am grateful for the familiar. Nothing inspires Moore like a road trip; consequently, A Slow Moving Stream is nothing less than a treat as we go around the bends in the bayou with her.
This fine book can be read for its places and its southern history, as well as for its fine poetry. The history that will beguile relates to the author's ancestry mostly, especially in French Southern Louisiana. The poems take you deeper than any tour bus could. Floods, gators, tall cypresses, churches, cardinals, drunkards, ambitious men, and frustrated women.. Thankfully the author gets out of herself and explores the world around her and in the past. The poems speak of the "social burden of slavery.". This is an America rarely revealed
