(Probably would, of itself, deserve 4 stars from me. The Kindle version here lacks all the music examples, and the rating is not after all just for the Thing in Itself but for this Fischer edition of it and for the presentation I'm reviewing.)

Reading his comments about sections and their faults in the last half make this a worthwhile read. For example, trumpet players don't count the time it takes them to breathe in certain rythms.
Low cost versions of well edited public domain works are hard to find. The free versions are often slapped together with no thought of the reader. The edited version of this book is beautifully done and I highly recommend anyone spend the small fee and get a great book for their library.
Download this book from project gutenberg instead of here. This version leaves out the immages and musical examples in the original.
I thought I knew something about Berlioz before reading this book - now I realize I did not know the real person. This is a great look inside the mind of a great musician. I also like the way the editor has added illustrations. Very nice.
Very nice book.!
This book is a joke. How do I know? First, not only does the publisher feel it necessary to tell me on the cover that it is "High quality," they say it twice! I'm pretty sure Porsches don't say "Fast" on them even once. Second, the text is as if it was written on a typewriter in someone's attic. Or printed on a dot matrix printer via Commodore 64. The kicker though, is that in every instance where there is an illustration in the text to better inform the reader of the author's meaning, in place of an actual illustration is the word "Illustration." Heck, that's practically the same thing. (Please reference attached photos. I'm not making any of this up).
